It a arrived in its own branded box with some brief instructions.

Having used various Kinesiology tape throughout the years, I’ve got to say this Second skin kinesiology tape stood up alongside some of the more famous expensive brands, and offered the same amount of support.
I would recommend SECOND SKIN KINESIOLOGY TAPE to anyone needing muscular support / muscular recovery support, following an injury. It definitely as just as effective.

Having played numerous sports to an exceptional level over the years I have had my fair share of injuries, trips to A&E and physiotherapists over the years. One of the main differences over recent years has been kinesiology tape, the support it gives in between appointments and how it’s aided recovery and limited the amount of time spent out injured. Below is a run down on how the tape works and why it’s effective.

What is kinesiology tape and it’s uses?

Many people often wonder what does Kinesio tape do and what ailments does it cover? It may help to know what Kinesio Tex tape is. Kinesio Tex tape is made of 100% elastic fibers that are latex free. You may notice a wave-like pattern, which is purposely put on the tape to mimic fingerprints and allows the tape to breathe. The tape itself only stretches on the longitudinal axis. Kinesio tape, if properly applied, can be used for virtually anything from chronic pain to menstrual cramps. For our purposes, I will specifically talk about athletes and tape usage.

Kinesio tape can be a huge asset for athletes, and this is evident to see buy watching most sports on TV and you will see numerous athletes with some kind of Kinesiology tape applied to numerous parts of the body. Kinesio tape can be applied in the middle of workouts or events in the case of sudden injury. The Kinesio tape is extremely strong and can be applied with different tension strengths. Many therapists will use different tension strengths and techniques to allow the muscles and ligaments to have “help” when injury occurs. The tape essentially stabilizes an area, for example the shoulder, to prevent any further damage.

The great thing about the Kinesio tape is that it still allows for range of motion, just not so much that you are likely to injure yourself further. In most cases, if you are in the middle of an event, the tension strength of the kinesio tape will be stronger for stabilization purposes. Now, understand that if you are in the middle of an event, Kinesio tape is just a Band-Aid. The tape will allow you to continue the event, but you must seek medical attention after your event is completed.

There are four different stages of physical exercise that the tape is usually used for.
These categories and explanation are listed below.

For Rehab

Many times athletes experience that after a competitive event their body is exhausted or broken, or it may be that a non-competitive athlete has overtrained, but in either case rehab is needed. Manual manipulation is important to rehabilitation. Using Kinesio tape after a manual manipulation session can increase efficacy of your treatment more so than without Kinesio tape. The tape can help open up fascial tissue to make manual manipulation easier. It helps athletes after manual manipulation in that it gives a continuous amount of stabilization to the affected area and gives muscles and ligaments a chance to rebuild and restore by taking the pressure off of those areas that have been worked on manually.

For Alignment

The Kinesio taping method also helps with alignment. If you have a tendency to slouch or have an area of the body that is not properly aligned Kinesio tape can bring the body back into alignment and help the athlete sense how this feels in the body. Having correct alignment can decrease pain and help the joints recover from activities.

For Pain

Kinesio tape also decreases pain in certain areas of the body that may be bothersome. Most athletes tend to have lower back pain. After manual manipulation, Kinesio tape can be placed on the affected area (using a different method or style of taping depending on the area) to decrease pain and discomfort. If there is bruising or swelling, there is a taping method that helps drain fluids into the lymphatic ducts to decrease swelling and help rid the body of bruising.

For Competition

One more area that may interest athletes is that Kinesio tape can be used before a sporting event. Most athletes tend to know if they have rolling ankles or patellar tracking issues, just to name a few ailments that I routinely hear in my office…

Several members of our family have been taped up by our Chiropractor before so knew of the benefits of Kinesiology Tape – it offers pain relief and support to joints and muscles on all parts of the body, and can help reduce inflamation when applied. This can be used in conjunction or as a replacement to medication.

This tape arrives in an attractive presentation box depicting examples of where the tape can be used. On opening you find it is of good quality. It is backed with a paper that has a cutting grid printed which is really handy – once you have cut your first piece, you can use the grid as a gauge for cutting further lengths so no waste. Due to the stretchiness you do not need as much as you think you will. I chose the skin colour which does blend in well to my pale skin tone, but other colours are available too. This brand is latex free and hypoallergenic so you don’t get any skin irritation. I got my husband to apply four strips to my back, two over my kidney area and two over my shoulders. Even though it doesn’t look it, it is easy to peel the backing paper off. Once stuck to the skin, it is stretchy and breathable and you don’t feel that you have it on, even when lying still or exercising. As it is waterproof it can be left on during the shower and continued to be worn for several days. I have found it remains stuck in place and is comfortable to wear. This is priced well and at 5m length is going to last you ages.

I love this product, but you do have to be a bit of a health freak like me to (I think, though not strictly true).

I have only used this product for my wrists, because this is one of my problem areas, and generally need support around there – this is because I lift more than my weight in shoulder press, and more than double my weight in bench press (both free-weight, rather than machine), and this really helps support my wrists.

I understand how this product could be used for other purposed though, and I would definitely recommend buying this product.

I received a small discount on this product in return for my thoughts in an unbiased review. That said, I can see myself buying this again at full price as its a very economical product.
