I’m so glad that I found this on Amazon. It keeps my head elevated so that I can sleep at night without waking up frequently from breathing issues and acid reflux. I swear by this product. I put a regular pillow on top of it for additional comfort. I will say that removing the cover that comes with it to wash it can be a real pain because it is so tight fitting and awkward shaped so if you think putting a regular pillowcase on a regular pillow is a pain, wait until you try it on this item. I’m concerned that, over time, the zipper will break that holds the covering on this due to frequent changing the cover to wash it.

Firstly, I want to say that the negative review of the wedge not inflated has got to be a competitor spewing some c-r-a-p. I opened my packaging, and it IMMEDIATELY inflated. I mean, not even a second. There’s an outer wrap and an inner wrap. Once exposed to air, it is almost fully formed. It does take some time to “fully” harden to the intended firmness as all foam products do.

So this is my second brentwood item. I sleep on a brentwood foam mattress because I have lumbar pain. I herniated 2 discs a few years ago, and stopped being able to sleep on my back. It resulted in sleeping only on my sides which caused my back pain to extend to my hips. I was having such bad hip pain, it was hard to do normal things…like walk…or stand…or just be alive. Side note: I really love my brentwood 13 inch foam mattress, it was a great purchase, it relieved some of the hip pain compared to a traditional mattress, but I still needed something else.

I have two herniated discs in my L-spine, and I’ve had struggles for the past 3 years sleeping without pretty severe pain and sciatica. I bought the intevision wedges before because they’re so highly rated on amazon; but they were either too soft for me or too high for my purposes. I would sink it so deeply that my upper back would hurt. Trust me when I say: the quality of the brentwood wedge is 10x better than the intevision ones. There is NO smell, the foam is very dense and firm, and the quality is evidently better. I’m very surprised this foam is cheaper than the inferior intevision alternative!

This wedge is relatively firm, but I would still consider it medium to medium-firm. I sink in a good amount and actually wish it was more firm. It may need some time to fully harden as I’ve only had it for two days. I did sink into it a good bit, and it does make my upper back hurt, but I am 190lbs so that may not happen for lighter folks. (Dear God, I need to lose some weight…)

For lumbar pain, I find the wedge just barely a little high. I really wish the item was the same length, but less steep (lower height.) I don’t have problems with acid reflux, so I will probably, at some point, muster up the bravery to shave off some height myself so that it’s less steep. I think this way I will have a better position for my upper back. I do find my neck is a little sore in the morning. I don’t think its pain in my spine, I really think it’s just that my neck isnt used to propping myself upwards at that angle, and the muscles in my neck have to have some time to adjust. If brentwood secretly has one that’s like 4-5in instead of 7in, please let me know because my foam-cutting skills are pretty limited.

Results? Yes! I woke up this morning without lumbar pain for the first time in 3 years. That. Is. Amazing. Can you imagine being miserable every day, every moment, and thinking it was going to be forever? That was me. This wedge gives me hope. It allows me to sleep on my back, it relieves pain so that I feel like I can do normal things, and it really helps motivate me to continue physical therapy and exercise to lose weight. These were things that were difficult for me before because no matter what I did, it would hurt. (It’s very difficult to exercise and stretch when everything hurts.)

I will continue updating this if anything changes. The TLDR version is that this pillow changed my life, and I’m virtually pain-free in my L-spine.

I gave this 3 stars because when I received it today the cover had ink stains??? on it and part of the cover was not sewn properly so that there was about a 2 inch hole in it. See attached photo’s.

I did think about returning it and giving this review a 1 star. However, I already have the 12 inch version of this wedge and I very much like it and had no problems with it what so ever. So, I’m chalking this up as a fluke.

1 Star off for the stains and 1 Star off for having to mend it properly. I should take 1 Star off for the aggravation but I’m feeling generous as I lay comfortably on this wedge.
